For sustainable climate protection: ARS Altmann starts operating a 79,000 m² solar carport facility in Riedstadt

  • Innovative solar carports on the premises of automotive logistics company ARS Altmann will deliver an annual yield of 16 million kilowatt hours
  • Dr Maximilian Altmann, CEO of ARS Altmann AG: “For us, Riedstadt is a flagship project, because our largest solar carport facility in Germany at present is a prime example of how economic efficiency and sustainability can be reconciled.”
  • Wolfgang Ketterle, Chief Operations Officer ARS Altmann AG: “We will continue to drive forward the transformation to e-mobility in the coming years.”
  • Branch manager Christof Meichelbeck thanks everyone involved for “a project of extraordinary dimensions”
  • Mayor Marcus Kretschmann: “It is impressive what has been achieved in terms of solar energy at the ARS Altmann AG site. The project in Riedstadt is also the largest photovoltaic system in the Groß-Gerau district.”

Riedstadt/Wolnzach, 27th November 2025 – These solar parking spaces help to protect the climate: a 79,000 square metre solar carport facility has now been connected to the power grid on the premises of the automotive logistics company ARS Altmann AG in Riedstadt. At the opening ceremony, Wolfgang Ketterle, Chief Operations Officer ARS Altmann AG, spoke of ‘a pioneering model project’. A total of 4,200 parking spaces have been equipped with 28,000  photovoltaic modules. The annual yield of 16 million kilowatt hours of electricity will help to reduce CO2 emissions, and thus represents climate protection in practice.

“For us, Riedstadt is a flagship project, because our largest solar carport facility in Germany at present is a prime example of how economic efficiency and sustainability can be reconciled,” says Dr Maximilian Altmann, CEO of ARS Altmann AG.

Wolfgang Ketterle, Chief Operations Officer ARS Altmann AG, underlines: “We have been working closely with the local authority in Riedstadt for many years, and I would like to express my sincere gratitude for this. We will continue to drive forward the transition to e-mobility in the coming years, as we firmly believe that there is no alternative.”

“It is impressive what has been achieved in terms of solar energy at the ARS Altmann AG site. The project in Riedstadt is also the largest photovoltaic system in the Groß-Gerau district. It is also very good that the feed-in distance is very short. We look forward to continuing our cooperation”, explains Marcus Kretschmann, Mayor of Riedstadt.

Christof Meichelbeck, ARS Branch Manager in Riedstadt, looks back on the construction phase and thanks everyone involved “who worked so hard to realise a project of this extraordinary dimensions”. The construction work on this major project, which was carried out in collaboration with ARS partner The Dillinger Group, took a total of one and a half years.

In future, an annual yield of 16 million kilowatt hours is to be achieved in Riedstadt. By way of comparison, this amount of energy corresponds to the annual consumption of 4,000 four-person households. The portion of electricity that is not used  on the company premises in southern Hesse is fed directly into the grid at the nearby substation.

A coherent overall concept

Everything fits together perfectly in Riedstadt. From now on, customer vehicles, buses used on the RS premises and electric trucks will be charged with locally produced solar power. Local residents will also benefit from the investment and the preference for environmentally friendly drive systems, as noise and CO2 pollution will decrease in future. This is because ARS Altmann AG plans to deploy additional modern electric trucks on selected local transport routes. The ARS mobility concept is based on rail, road, land and sea terminals, with rail being the preferred mode of transport for long-distance transport.

Environmentally friendly transformation and protection against hail, snow and overheating

The solar carports match this picture of environmentally friendly transformation. The new solar carports have a further benefit for ARS Altmann AG, as they also protect the vehicles on site from hail, snow and overheating.

84 kilometres of power cable laid

A total of approximately 84 kilometres of power cable was laid for climate-friendly power generation. Of this, 80 kilometres was used for string cables connecting the individual photovoltaic modules to the inverters. The modules are connected to 92 inverters distributed throughout the system.
