Direct transport from the factory
Our modern double-decker wagons travel from the respective OEM plant to our bases. From there, they are transported on the last mile by truck.
We transport around 1.2 million vehicles by rail every year.
Combined transport with bases & port terminals
Rail connections are seamlessly linked to our road fleets, compounds and Italian port terminals. Vehicles can be temporarily stored, processed or cleared through customs before they reach their final destination by truck or ship. This creates maximum flexibility for varying volumes and export markets.

ARS Altmann AG consistently anchors environmental and climate protection in its rail business:
Rail share as CO₂ lever
One car train replaces around 35 truck journeys, reducing the impact on long-distance roads and the atmosphere by several tons of CO₂ per year. Rail transport is therefore key to our “Way to Zero” vision.
Modernized wagon fleet
Ongoing investments in lightweight materials and low-noise brake blocks reduce energy requirements and noise emissions. Closed double-decker wagons prevent additional vehicle washing – a measurable benefit in terms of water and chemicals.
Own railway company "ART Altmann Rail Traction"
Since 2024, we have been operating our own rail transport company in Italy, ART Altmann Rail Traction. ART complements our set-up and cooperation with the existing rail transport companies (RUs).
Integrated management system
ISO 14001 and 50001-certified processes monitor energy and resource consumption, occupational health and safety and quality, initiate improvements and guarantee full transparency for customers.
As an important component of the secure supply chain, AEO also provides the appropriate framework.
Intermodal synergies
Linking rail with e-trucks, solar-powered carports and digital management reduces emissions along the entire supply chain – from the factory to the retailer.
ARS Schienentechnik GmbH
Important support for our rail fleet: ARS Schienentechnik GmbH is a subsidiary of ARS Altmann AG. It is the ECM (Entity in Charge of Maintenance) in accordance with DVO (EU) 2019/779 and thus the entity responsible for the maintenance of ARS Altmann AG’s wagon fleet.
